Cycling around the world for great causes

Throughout 2016 we have been completing our ‘Round the world’ cycling event raising money for our chosen children’s charities, and having some fun and exercise while we’re at it!

Every one of our offices across the South East took part to clock up an amazing 38,034km, and raising £89,815 for charity. We’re proud to say that we achieved our round the world challenge and this takes our staff charity fundraising total to £362,815 and counting over the last four years.

A huge thank you to all those that donated and supported us on this challenge.

Action Medical Research

Action Medical Research

At Action we save and change children’s lives through medical research.

We believe that the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children can be beaten. We have been funding medical breakthroughs since we began in 1952 like the first polio vaccines in the UK, ultrasound in pregnancy and the rubella vaccine – helping to save thousands of children’s lives and change many more.

Surprisingly medical research to help children is poorly funded in the UK. Action Medical Research has a critical job to do in helping fill this gap to protect children. The prospects for finding new cures and treatments are almost within our grasp. We have vital research ready to go – we simply can’t fund it all.

Research we are funding includes: Asthma, Autism, Blindness, Brain Cancer, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy, Meningitis, Premature birth, and other rare diseases.

Rainbow Trust Children's Charity

The Rainbow Trust logo

Rainbow Trust Children's Charity provides practical and emotional support to over 1000 families a year who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.

With two respite houses in Surrey and Northumberland they provide a break for the whole family, allowing them to spend precious time together as a family.Rainbow Trust's Family Support Workers join the family in their own home and are there to provide whatever practical support is needed. They may attend hospital appointments with parents, sit by the bedside of the sick child to give parents a break and take worried siblings out for the day. Rainbow Trust supports families for as long as are needed - from diagnosis, through the illness and beyond.

Chris Nathan one of the Senior Operations Directors at Cubitt & West explains why the Rainbow Trust was chosen as our nominated charity. Being a father with two children of my own, who are fortunate to be in excellent health, I was keen to support a charity that focused it's efforts on helping and aiding terminally ill kids. It was a breath of fresh air to meet Jo Harris at The Rainbow Trust who had given up her high flying career to help the children and I also found all the staff and carers polite and very genuine. We are dedicated to providing support so that our contribution will have the greatest impact to Rainbow House.

Our support to this wonderful charity in 2016 includes us funding a Rainbow Trust Family Support Worker for the year to provide additional support in the Surrey area. In addition on the 4th September 60 staff and partners from our Cubitt & West Surrey region took part in the Nuts Challenge, tackling a 7km army assault course and individually raising over £13,000 to date.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care.

We are proud to support the wonderful work of the Macmillan nurses and take part in their Annual Coffee Mornings in order to raise much needed funds for cancer relief.

In addition we have made a number of donations and continue to sponsor other charities and individual cases all based around children with disability, both physical and mental, as part of our work in the community programme.
